Repair of the MAF sensor itself
Just got my first CEL this week (2001 wagon 59k miles). Code reader states p0170 & p0173. I've searched all the related posts here and seems the MAF is the likely culprit (though the post filter side of the intake duct is pristine - damn!).
I've 2 questions I hope someone could help with please. Has anyone successfully:
1) repaired the MAF sensor itself (as opposed to replace) or come across any DIY repair instructions. Is there one weak component to the sensor or many/varied? Seems these devices fail often in MBs (suspect I've been lucky thus far) and at the price I don't consider them disposable.
2) made p0170 & p0173 go away without replacing the MAF?

I heard some owners have had luck cleaning the sensor wire but I haven't had luck with that route. The MAF's aren't all that expensive so I replaced the one on my old E430 and my E55.
We have just had our MAF changed at the stealers it cost £240 but boy does the car drive better for it like the wind
