E320 Mirror Problems

The spring that allows the mirror to fold and pop back into place has come off inside the mirror housing. It is the driver side mirror. Is there a way to remove the mirror from the car and reattach the spring provided the attachment point is not broken off. Also can the mirror motor etc be removed from the housing? Appreciate any help. The car is a '97 E320

Once you remove the outer shell or cover then the motor and the spring can be accessed. The whole mirror comes off with just 3 screws.

Whitey:

I attempted to view the page that you displayed, but I keep getting the message "page not found." Is there another way to view it. I too have a broken mirror. Mine is the passenger side. I want to see if I can hook the spring onto something in the mirror case.

Many thanks!

This is going to sound real corny but here it is:

" the site is down, please try again later"

Otherwise, I seem to remember a few other posts with pics and instructions (probably by E-Klasse who is one of the masters of DIY here )...Good luck.

The piece that the spring attached to on mine broke in a car wash. My shop re-attached it to a different part for free. However, everytime I closed the door the whole thing rattled because the spring was no longer as tight as it should have been.

I finally had enough of that and found new guts for $156 (Drivers side) from Rad Tech. It is an aftermarket reproduction. Took about 10 minutes to install...works great! The OEM part goes for about $450-$550...no thanks.

Good luck

That video is quite enlightening but is only for the early 210. The later 210 with the light mirror doesn't have that spring. I still haven't figured out how to take the shell off. Any assistance would be appreciated.
