what is offset for '97 E420 wheel?
i bought a couple on ebay and it said ET 41. i need 2 more and is saw some that said ET35. this doesn't sound right somehow. i thought that wheel was only used on the "97 E420 and no other model.
i am putting them on my "99 e320.

ET35 will be fine. The best off-set is dependent on the width of the rim. The off-set may change with the width. Larger wheels are wider and will have a lower off-set. If you are getting 16" wheels that are 7" wide, they may have an off-set of ET41 but an 18" wheel with a width of 8" or 9" will have an ET of 35 or 31. Always check all of the measurement when buy wheels. Most of the time sellers on ebay don't incluse the off-set. The width and off-set go hand in hand. You may want to put wider wheels in the back, so thay will have a different off-set.

the rim for the 1997 - 1999 E420/E430 (non-Sport) is this one. It is 16X7.5 et41.

As said, E standard wheels are not ET35. ET35 is a common AFTERMARKET size for 8-9" rims.
ET41 actually sounds about right for the stock wheel, as confirmed by Kev and will just give you a stock fender alignment (sitting inside quite a bit). Lower ET's will generally give you a better alignment. As E-Klasse has said, the optimal alignment needs consideration of the wheel width as well. It all depends on what you are looking for.
