Vent control.......

Am I doing something wrong? I only want the ac to blow out of the front vents only, not the floor and front at the same time. In hot weather with shorts on I don't want the cold air blowing on my legs. The vent control button only allows the front vents to blow along with the floor vents at the same time. Unless I am doing something wrong. Am I correct? If I am this is stupid. Every other car allows front vents only as an option. Cold air sinks, so I don't need even more cold air coming from the floor vent.

I called my dealer today, said MB set the vent options upon mfg design and no front vents only. It is mixed with the floor vents at the same time. Completely stupid!!!!

Do you have the owner´s manual?
It explains how to make the dash vents to vent.
Maybe I´m wrong but dealer answer doesn´t seem accurate.

Right. The floor vents are controlled by the computer when on auto mode. You can select only the front vents using the vent direction switch. There should be one arrow, which points horizontally.

If you get floor vent air even when you manually set the direction, you probably have a flap problem. Run the flap test to know for sure.

I figured it out. You can only get the front vents only with the manual mode.

which car?
both of the mercedes i have owned did not have a center vent only option.
only cold air would come through the center vent. warm air would come from the sides, windshield, or feet.
and this is on manual mode.

im assuming the 2002 climate control unti is the same/similar to the 97.

anyway, today i had the ac on and it blew from the center vent, when i raised the temp to warm air would stop comming through the center vent. the direction arrow was facing up, i had heat comming from the windshield area and the side vents.
manual mode.

arrows dont matter. the temp setting determines where the air will be released.

tornpants - your car is working as designed. The center dash vents are only for A/C. As far as I know, there's no way to get heat out of them.
