245/40/18 on a w210?
the curb side of the tire. with that profile/size, it is likely to rub the nut on the
inside. this is all but assured, too, because you're lowering it. this answer
covers both tire sizes. the variables depend on tire model, degree of drop,
and spring pad selected. rear shouldn't have any problem since it's not
steerable. the offset should accommodate 265 and 275

I had 9" rims with ET37 fitting on front just fine, so theoretically your 6 mm smaller offset combined with 13 narrower rim (on the side) should give you 7 mm MORE clearance than my wheels.
But if you get tires with big crown for the nominal size, the 7 mm to spare is not that much.
I measured couple of my own tires, in the same nominal size having about 12 mm difference in crown width.
One was rubbing the fenders, the other was not. All the same on paper.

01 55
I have 245/35/19 8.5 with Continentals DW in front no rub. In rear i have 285/30/19 9.5 in back no rub. I have a pic of front clearance which is not much left. Not sure whats going to happen when i change suspension. i am thinking i need at least 3 - 5 mm spacer up front and hopeflly none out back. ill look for the pic.

in your plan dictate, to some degree, a measure as you go and improvise the
parts.
the wheel will fit, but you need to purchase 14mm ball seat lug bolt with a 12mm
diameter threading. if you do not, it will result in the ball having insufficient
contact with the ball seat in the 211 wheel. https://www.otisincla.com/
you're planning on lowering the car but have not identified the degree of drop
or spring pad thickness
you already own the wheel/tire. you eyes should be able to see where the
rubbing occurs. you're going to have to estimate how much relief is needed
to maintain clearance, both from the wheel arch lip as well as the inside nut
you've asked whether 235 is a better size. yes, but without knowing the exact
measurement of the tire you buy when inflated to recommended pressure, no
one can tell if it will clear everything in your lowered car. why? because you're
already so close to the extremes that it's a gamble. so sorry, i won't gamble
on your dime.
you can increase the margin for safety by selecting 225 and though that may
ease most concerns regarding rubbing, it may result in enough differential
that your cruise control may not function properly. the rolling distance between
the front and rear tires cannot exceed a couple of percentage points.
I would recommend that you read up on previous threads using the keyword
"lowering" or "suspension" or something and extrapolate for your particular
situation.

then there is also the issue of rideability. i have no idea how you like your ride
to be in terms of comfort. all this tweaking may result in a ride which you find
objectionable (or your wife/girlfriend,etc). so it isn't a simple 'will this work?'
type of question given the myriad of other factors in the equation.
in my case:
- I purchased 211 twin spoke AMG rims with 31 front and 34 rear offset
- the 245/40 front tires were scraping the wheel opening/arch
- i lowered the car using Voitland, then to Eibach by approx 1.5 inches
- I used Continental ContactSport tires on both ends
- the rear tire remained 265/35 and I chose to use a 225/40 front tire given the lowering scheme. Steering is lighter (seat of pants) with the 225 front tires.
- i carefully gauged the drop and clearances and made sure I had enough adjustability to swap out spring pads to maintain clearances and the desired ride height. I can't dig up spring pad sizes I'm using for you right now.
- to ensure clearance at the fender I flattened the wheel arch lip (gained about .25" more clearance)
- lowering more than 1.25" is likely to require camber adjustment arms for you to purchase to avoid excessive tire wear
- I am using Bilstein HD/Sport model shocks for a very firm ride. I love the ability to throw the car into the curves now. Body roll is nearly non-existent (compared to before). But I also have to be conscious of the low clearance over obstacles (bumps, dips).

the ride height has actually lowered another .5" after 'breaking in' the new springs and stuff.

Even S-class W220 sits on 225 tires.
W210 factory tires start at 195 and go to 245 for sport options.
I think the wide tires on AMG are more for looks, than for real handling.
more tread on each side going to do for you. flippantly, I would say that the
225 will work better in the snow.

to some degree, MB saw fit to design the car with these combination of parts,
specifications, etc which they feel will result in an entry level luxury car.
we, because of the glamor of fad, lower COG, peer pressure, personal taste etc
feel the need to alter and remodel its design and function. so whatever we
choose, we need to be fully aware of the cause and effect of monkeying around
with the original design.
I spend most of my time pedaling, in the truck, or on the motorcycle. the E320
was a mid-life crisis project car. I bring it out of the garage when it is not
raining (here in Seattle). Last year, I almost sold it. But when I was ready to
drive it one last time, I realize that it filled that niche that the other vehicles
couldn't. Made me feel like a baller. 15 yr old or not, it had personality
that I enjoyed even if it wasn't a daily driver. I knew it inside-out, having
spent the past 12 yrs on MBWorld and Benzworld. It's a keeper. And even
though it doesn't make financial sense, I still plan on installing a single DIN
dvd, subwoofer, and rear camera. Go figger :-D
oh, insofar as whether the 225 has enough meat on the road for you, only you
can answer that. it's like buying necktie, watches or underwear. your call.
good luck narrowing things down and enjoy your car !

The Best of Mercedes & AMG
235/40/18 on 8.5 width wheels for the fronts. No issues.
265/35/18 on the rear. Next time I'll get 265/40/18 or 275/35/18 for the rears.

Yes. It has been lowered using H&R springs, they claim the drop is 1.5 inches. I should have just gotten H&R's sports cup kit which drops it further. Nevertheless, I like how it sits now.
I have Carlsson wheels 18x8.5 and 18x9 with 35 offsets on all 4. If someone's willing to trade for an excellent 19 inch MB wheels, I prefer the 5 spokes, I may/can consider so just let me know.
I just posted a shot of my car on the W210 shots.
Here's the link.

Anyway, of all the cars I've owned, this W210... whether an estate or a sedan, is my favorite body style!

Wheels are off of a w211 18x8.5 38 offset with a 5mm spacer
There is very little space between the tire and the upper suspension bolt and I rub sometimes on large bumps.
