how do i leave the recirculation function on automatically? everytime i start the car up, it goes to fresh mode.

 

I don't think that is an option. I recall reading that the default is fresh air and that the manual references something about not being advisable to leave it on. I can tell you that I left it on in our volvo...after a number of years, the mold smell sucks. Sure you can treat it, but it seems to reoccur after a while.
