Chrome rings for gauge
Does anyone here have the Chrome rings on their gauge on a 2000 & up E Class ? I would like to see a pic of it on one before I buy it. I like the look of it on the new e class and I had it on my Audi A6. I just want to see it on a 2001 E-class before I buy it Thanks in advance... AA

got mine off ebay for $35. you'll have to center the left ring (engine temp and fuel level side) about 100%, otherwise the gauge needle will bind up on the ring. took about 10 minutes to install and looks great

The plastic front cover doesn't come off by itself. You have to take the whole front of the cluster off and incert them from the back through the holes. Then you just reassemble and install it back in the dash.

I still don't understand exactly what you need to do with the IC. Do you pull it toward you? How?
Makes me nervous about seeing other posts mentioning things falling off, hooks, tweezers, ugh! I want to do this.

yeah, good question.
I installed a wood insert on my shaft board with a chrome bezel ring and want to mimic that in my dash. Wood insert over the black plastic with chrome bezel rings. But i'll be dipped if I can figure out how to get into the cluster w/out it becoming a huge hassle.

The cluster is removed with 2 hooks (like a car radio) available cheaply from MB dealers - or you can remove the plastic from underneath the steering wheel, and push the instrument panel out backwards.

Very easy install, just make sure you line up the ring on the left so thats its centered. I have pics, I will post next week.

picture tutorial or a graphical break down of the cluster would be very helpful.

Test and make sure EVERYTHING work before pushing the IC back (turn on key, engine, light...). And make sure the key is not in the ignition when you pull out the IC.
I can only have pix up for a week or so, they'll go away after that.
