Exclamation Help! any info related to E320 (Year 2000) COMAND display unit faulty

The COMAND display faded out while I was driving and I would appreciate for any information or similar experience if you have. I can still play CD and radio with steering column control, and the sound seems to be OK or at least same as before. I hate to replace this COMAND head , but I would like to fix this without taking the car to the dealer shop. I have a regular removal key for the temperature control unit, but the tool does not fit for the COMAND unit , any information related to the removal tool for the COMAND head unit would be appreciated also.

I have 2000 E320 with factory original COMAND unit with NAV/phone/CD changers. Before this trouble, I had problems with the CD changer time to time (stop recognizing the CD magazine in the changer - mostly due to unknown intermittent cause), but this is the first time I had this kind of problem with the display. I have 42K miles on it, and my luck with the warranty is no good (4 years or 50K which ever comes first). I am thinking about to do hard reset by disconnecting the battery from the car, but, if this does not fix the problem, then I may not be able to use anything at all.

I also have all the same problem with the Temp display and Gear indicator display problem like the rest of the world.

Thanks in advance for any information or insights.

Continuing ...

In addition to the above problem, I forgot to mention one more. If I press the display button and turn the mode to daylight mode, the screen shows very briefly (about a second or two) twice and go back to blank every time. Also, I have a static noise (I can hear the static noise when the music volume is low).

The following are the diagnostics (on screen using 1+3+mute) and it has 4 list items (N1111 with condition 006, B1780 with condition 001, B1736 with condition 001, and B1730 with condition 002, and all status are "P').

Interesting D2B component list shows POS 0,1, and 2; however, POS 1 actual is "0F0" but config is "190" and POS 2 actual is "190" but config is "0F0". Is this could be a problem? The position 0 is "1C8" for both actual and config.

Any help from seasoned MB members would be appreciated.
