maybe a pic of your gearknob? is yours the OEM knob or an aftermarket?
if it doesn turn you might want to use pliers and a piece of cloth to get some grip and twist it..
i had probs like that before, but i recently changed my knob to an original S class leather knob..happy with it..

Pull it off!
The ring releases the base of the inside of the knob which clamps onto the shaft. Wiggle it a little and pull hard if you need to, maybe its just fixed in place with age.
And no, the ring does not come off. 90 degrees is all that is needed.

i once had a short gilfriend, 4'11 ! very short, but she could shift !( lol ) i left the f out accidentally the first go around on shift, hahaha )

Thanks for this and many more I have found on this website. Was easy to change out my original with a new wood knob. Found the information here and also have replaced steering wheel. What a great site!!!
