Inner peace?
My wife thinks I'm crazy but sometimes late at night I like to jump in my little Benz all by myself and take a 15-20 minute drive. Kind of like a small peaceful get away in the car I enjoy. In fact, I'm about to go take my drive right now, so, am I crazy?

Not at all... I do the exact same thing. My car is my sanctuary. Sometimes if I'm stressed I'll take a drive to relax or just sit in there for a few minutes. Oh ya I sometimes end up playing "Cars" by Gary Newman while I take my leisurely drives. Enjoy your drive.

I do a BenzTour at least once a week! I can be on lovely county highways and ountry lanes in about five minutes, so it's nothing to run her out for 20-30 minutes, then back by a different route. What slays my wife is when I run for a loaf of bread or some such: we have a giant supermarket a mile and a half away, but I'll drive to a towm 10 miles away - and we know why, don't we?! I drive for a living, yet being behind the wheel is truly a sanctuary...

I guess we are all friggin' lunatics. I think there are many of us who enjoy the late night spin (leaving out the Gary Neuman of course). I don't understand women and shoes, so I guess they will never understand boys and their cars.
Maybe Guitarplayer can write us all a prescription. He said I could use some meds. Now that I have admitted to lunacy, that makes him correct.
$3 a gallon slowed down my "drive-abouts", but I still manage one now and then.

I know exactly the drive that you are all talking about. There's nothing like that drive - man and machine. It's primal.
Also, very early morning ones on the weekends are spectacular. No traffic at 6a on a Sunday.
Finally, if you think you guys are weird, I'll tell you that one of my ritual drives is New Years morning. Pick any January 1st before 8am and the road is all yours. Nirvana.

Ya know, I've never thought to myself, "gee why don't I take the Dodge Caravan for a nice drive alone." Driving that floating box around is the opposite of what I'm wanting in a drive! Wheel noise so loud it grinds on you like a nagging wife! I need the serenity of my Benz, only it understands me.

I do it at leat 4 to 5 times a night in the E55 or 750li. Though I prefer the E55. Its relaxing after a long days work. I even go down to the Pier for a walk with the wife sometimes once the kids are asleep or possibly just drive around PCH for 30minutes from San Clemente to Laguna and back.
