Instrument cluster problem

Hi
I have a 270cdi -01 with a problem in the cluster. The LCD dots is from time to time gone black.
I have found an old one from 270cdi -00 and it looks 100% the same.
Does anyone know if I can change the clusters with good result ?

a w210 cluster should work from a 2000 to 2002. so yes it should work. the '99-earlier ones are abit different and will not.

I agree with 45acp ... 2000-2002 should work fine, if you have phone system in your car or any other like navigation system You maight need to bring your car to the dealer so they can ajust programing in the IC simple job 10-5 min not sure how much they charge for it ...Hope helps

Mine did the same thing. I took the cluster out and cleaned the main ribbon connector and it has not given a problem in two months.

I had luck dissassembling my cluster on my 2000 E430. I had lcd's out on the clock and temperature displays. I ended up placing two shims under the pink pads that put pressure on the ribbon connectors. I have had no problems since the modification. I ended up having a "practice" cluster that I purchased off E-bay so I could learn how to dissassemble without breaking my only cluster.

I wish I would have taken photos, but I was not sure if it would work. I plan on repairing my "practice" cluster in the near future. I will take some photos when I complete that attempt. Unfortunately, I had broken one of the ribbon connectors from the PCB on my practice unit, so I will be attempting to resolder that one.

Either way, the one I modified is working great and I did not spend the $850 at the dealer for a replacement.

Hi
I am going to try cleaning my instrument first but I talked to Mercedes to have a price on programming an old instrument and believe this:

If you get a used instrument they can't reprogram your old kilometer reading to the new one(used one). They told me that only completely new instruments from Mercedes can be programed the first 2500 kilometers.

Thank´s very mutch.

I have just have my unit on the kitchen table and take it apart in 3 pieces.

1 First the front from the rest
2 Then the black back cover
3 Then I just separate the unit a llittle bit so I can see the flat cables to temp and clock

Man, wish I had read this sooner. Spent 700 last week from the dealer to replace mine and that was after they gave me 50% off the total price.
