Regular HID bulbs burn around 4k color temp and Stage II aka Ultinons are 6k temp. I read that the 6k bulbs are used by Euro Lemans cars. Philips 6k bulbs are called 'Cool Xenon'. Is this a 'true upgrade' for OEM HID? Thanks.

yes stage 2 HID's(@ 6000+k) are used by LeMans racers, i have them on my car, they are great lights, however the lights that you ahve in hte picture are imitations, true HID kits have a ballast and everything

ImportTuneTyp:

Take another look. The picture is of HID 6k 'bulbs' not HID 6k 'kits'. I am asking about the bulb upgrade only. I already have factory HID so I will not need a HID kit with ballast, igniters, etc. I need opinions on the performance of upgrading from 4k bulbs to 6k bulbs. I have read that the 6k may not 'really' be an upgrade for a OEM Factory HID system.

Another pic of 'real' HID bulb:

Where u get the PHILIPS Cool Xenon (from your pics). I try to oreder from hid4less.com, but they didn't have the PHILIPS brands for stage 2 HID upgrade bulbs, they have another brands. I belive the PHILIPS Coll Xenon 6000K is more reliable. So, would you like to tell us where you get this stuff. Thanks

chaser, the pic comes from www.suvlights.com.

I have read that the 6k bulbs produce a purple-ish hue when viewed from the front. Not sure if I want a purple-ish color?

Philips and OSRAM are two separate bulb making companies.

The 6000K bulbs output is less than the 4100K bulbs. If you care.

Lumen rating
The Phillips Ultinon (Cool Xenon) 6000K bulb are rated at 2800-2900 lumens while the regular HID bulb 4100K bulb are rated at 3150 lumens.

Yes, based on the lumen rating the stage 2 has slightly less lumen but you will hardly notice them.

I have both version on my cars. Interestingly the stage 2, since it gives a whiter/bluish hue, tend to increase the contrast. Almost like the effect of black light (UV light).

I have the stage 2 upgrade on one of my car and I like it.

E55MKB, did you upgrade the HID to Stage II in your E55? Is that the car which you like the upgrade. I am considering the Stage II on my E55. Thanks.

The Philips Ultinon 6000K kit on ym friends '99 Escalade looked beautiful and had plenty of light output. He bought them from Autolamps-online.com ... If you are looking for a slightly bluer color and want to maintain the light output.. Ultinon's are the way!
