Tire size alternatives

Guys, I have the 235/45/17 OEM sport wheels. Can I go with a 225/45 as an alternative? Any other combinations that will still fit properly on an 8" wheel?

Thanks in advance.

I would think that a 225 would fit, albeit stretched more on the 8" rim. Check a website like discount tires or tirerack or something like that...they are pretty good at things like that.

It probably wouldn't be as good a ride as the stockers, but then again, you might be onto something.

Keep load capacity in mind when downsizing tire size. Why go down to 225? That size has lower load capacity, will ride slightly worse, and will make your speedometer read too fast.

You can go up to 245/45/17, provided that your wheel offset isn't too extreme.

The only time I would go with a narrower tire would be for winter purposes or off-roading, where you wanted to be able to cut snow or mud. Stick with OEM fitment or go 10mm wider -- that would be my advice......
Always remember just how important your tires are...your life, and the lives of your passengers, may depend on them.......
Post in the tires and wheels forum and get Luke to help you out -- easy.

Thanks guys. I'm looking to replace my winter set, and I see good deals on 225 sizes as well as 235. I just wanted to know if it made sense to expand my options in this regard. Based on what you said, I'll stick with OEM sizes.

Clay, I posted this in that forum and all I got was that 235-225 = 10. Very helpful, isn't it?

Yeah, it's been hit-or-miss lately -- doesn't take too much time or effort to make a post though....
OEM or narrower for snows, especially on an SUV or truck, as the 'float' kills ya.
