Is the MBZ Extended Warranty Worth It!
My warranty is about to expire and I am thinking about the extended warranty. From the MBZ website for an AMG car it would cost me:
1 year $3600
2 year $4290
3 year $5856
NE1 have any suggestions or alternatives. Thanks.

I have made good use of my extended warranty so I am a fan. I paid $2000 for a 2yr 100K when I bought my car.
Got the following replaced:
1. Rear Differential
2. ECU Module
3. Stop Lamp switch

My 02 E320 warranty is up (4 years) in May 06. I called warranty direct and a full bumper to bumper warranty for 4 more years or 100K miles (which ever comes first) is only $2100. I am the original owner and have approx. 28K on the car. For some reason, I decided at purchase 8 years @100k from MB was too long and the car would be gone...
Warranty Direct quote
May 2010 or 128K miles... full coverage= $2100 ($100 deductible)
They also have less expensive plans.
The representative on the phone stated they would use genuine MB parts, but I did not see this in writing. I think having true MB parts installed is important. Maybe I am being over cautious...

My dealer only offers aftermarket alternatives and never gave me pricing/coverage info on MB factory extended warranty.
Their offers are around $2800 for additional 2 yrs up to 60k miles and $3500 for 3 yrs up to 75k miles. It looks almost the same coverage in terms of repair and use MB parts but I cannot do any comparison to MB extended warranty.
Mr. Gearhead,
Can you let me know the number to call for your coverage? $2100 for additional 4 yrs to 100k miles is an excellent package. Are you sure about bumper to bumper? I thought all tear & wear plus upholstery are not covered. Hope you can answer soon as my original warranty is running up in about 2 weeks.
Thanks in advance.
E320se also..

I filled in my information and they called my in a few days. The representative stated it made a difference I was the original owner b/c it saved my a few hundred bucks.
Their bumper to bumper policy covers all the normal stuff but not wear and tear like brake pads, rotors, tires... you know.. the typical exclusions. I think they have two different offerings. B-t-B or Regular which just covers drivetrain stuff and not electronics. B-t-b covers ECU, switches and such so it seemed like a good added value. To think my UBER Sedan will be covered until 2010 is sweet! I don't think I will have 50K on it by then... i just don't drive far....

It's worth buying simply for the fact that it makes your car easier to sell when the times comes. You'll get at least 1000 more for a warrantied car, especially since too many people are afraid of these cars breaking down.

"Is the MBZ Extended Warranty Worth It!"
Very subjective; it's usually expensive and some people never use it, some people get three times the cost out of it. Mine cost around $1450 for the M-B 8-year / 100,000 mile warranty when I purchased it new and I have never used it. But I would buy it again for the peace of mind and the high cost of potential repairs of a Mercedes.
I've had extended warranties on other American-made vehicles and it probably would have been smarter to set aside the total cost of the warranty, invest it in a cd, and wait to see if something breaks.

I switched to warrantydirect because of the better rate for my 2005 CLK. As someone stated above, it costed me about $2000. For the same coverage, House of Import in CA sold me MBZ one for $6800. I know it was lsted $3100 on MBZ site; I was stupid at that time. BTW, the Chinese guys, AKA Team Huang, cheated on me on that "special deal". Be careful on these guys if you want to get your car there.

WHAT? YOU'RE KIDDING... ... they pick and choose what they warranty? Not even for a price will they warranty AMG? WOW... I can't understand the business model wrapped around that one... At least offer some kind of warranty... They didn't have any issues with my car... however it is just a V6 that can barely get out of it's own way... so ... you know..

Aftermarket warranties are not all alike!!! Make sure that they cover the following items:
No shop rate limit....If your shop charges $100/hr and they have a $75 limit, you pay the diff.
Diagnostic time.....A lot will pay for the part but not the time to find out which part is needed.
Emissions....A lot of them do not cover this.
Stereo/NAV....Most so not cover these items
Car rental.....A lot of them will cover $35/day but will limit the amount
Prices can range a huge amount so be careful and make sure the warranty is backed by a solid underwriter. A buddy of mine bought a warranty for a 2002 M5 only to find out that the underwriter went belly up the first time he tried to use it! $2800 down the drain!

My original post has the high prices of the MBUSA warranties for my car:
1 year $3600
2 year $4290
3 year $5856

5800 for 3 years seems like a ton of money. Why not keep 6 k aside for repairs instead? 99% of the time you won't spend more than that on repairs over 3 years unless the car's a real lemon.

I checked out the MB warranty at the dealership yesterday. Kev is correct with the numbers... holy cow! They also offered an aftermarket warranty from... FORD... that's right... Ford Motor Company was the sponsor. At four years, 100K miles and $200 deductible it was $2,750. There were a lot of exceptions on the list but primarily the engine, trans and rear were covered.
I am thinking... it's a Mercedes... it should last right? That is why I bought two in 02... My E320 SE and my wife's ML320. Both great vehicles and never really had any issues until my temp displayed went out last Monday. They also "tried" to fix my squeaking seat... for the 5th time.
I then decided to look at a CLK350. $449 month, 36 mo. lease with $4600 down. Nice car... but I think my E320 is nicer. Maybe not as updated inside... but still nice... AND.. it will be paid off soon. Decisions Decisions...
I never leased before... makes me nervous thinking I am driving in a "rented" car...
I will keep my car and most likely get the basic drivetrain warranty or... scrape the warranty.. and put a turbo kit on it... that should make the engine last...

Dealer just called me back... I might have a good deal on a 06 CLK500. I can buy the 8yrs 100K new for only $2600. If I don't get passed the standard warranty... they will refund the additional warranty money back... not a bad deal... Just need to see how much my 02 is worth to THEM...
