Phantom window switch short?

I have a 1998 E430 sport and yesterdy fort a short time the driver side front window failed to go up or down. I used the key in the door and the motor worked fine. I flipped the wood console over and saw everything was clean and connected properly. Buttoned it all back up and shortly after all was operational.
Today the passenger side front window was inoperable for a few hours. I rechecked the connection and the wire is a little short but the connection looks pretty good. Any ideas? Thanks for your time, -Todd

when you say it was inoperable, are you sure the one-touch settings on the windows (not sure if the 98 has that) were in sync? if you were pressing the button all the way down and the one touch was out of sync the window might not respond. Have you tried pressing the window switch part way down? Just a thought.
