Back to LA in a bit more than a week:

- Wed: rock hit windshield, small crack. By Thu night, crack run across the windshield. Got it scheduled for replacement.

- Today: some kid too busy dial cel phone while driving, --> rear-end my car. Worse, the guy just got another accident, so he beg me to repair the bumper, and he would pay cash for the repair, rather than let insurance handle the job (replacement of bumper, and likelyhook of raising his rate). I hope the repair end up looking fine.

May be I should keep on traveling and driving American, aka rental, cars ???

Couple custom job I had on before (rear view camera, GPS), never had chance to take pix, look like they will have to wait even longer ...

Yes we did exchange insurance & contact info. However, he asks that I would consider cheap repair so that he could pay for it out of his pocket. As long as the car look fine, I don't mind. I will probably have it done at M2 Collision (near my place in Fountain Valley), or German Car Specialist (Manhatan Beach), near my work place.

I would love to go through the insurance route and get this over with (and peace of mind w/ bumper replacement), the only problem is that the kid is still going to school & part time job, and I neither want him to go broke nor have his insurance/driving record go kaput.

Btw, I still owe you a phone call. Will try Sat night, if not, is weekday okey ? Since my schedule for Sun is all loaded !!.

My friend told me he could hook me up for windshield replacement at his budy's shop for $200 (PPG glass + labor, done at auto glass shop- Atlantic Glass in Westminster), not too bad ??

I highly recommend you not go the cash route. I was recently rear ended and although the damage look like it was just light cosmetic scratches to the bumper cover, there was crumpling inside the trunk. All told it came out to about $4000-4500 the body shop billed to the insurance company. Maybe they took the insurance company for a ride, but they kept me informed through the entire process and invited me in to examine the damage every time they found anything new. The also have a good reputation for quality work. I was happy with the results. The woman who hit me, btw, was probably not going more than 10-15 miles per hour. I recommend you find a good body shop that specializes in mb and/or luxury cars and pay cash for an estimate. then give the kid the bill and ask if he still wants to pay cash or let the insurance company handle it.
