Differences bw 99 / 00 E-class
Hi. I was wondering if anyone knows off the top of their head....
All of the differences, if any slight or major, between a 99 E320 and a 2000 E320. Thank you.
I appreciate it.

1999 Mercedes E300 TurboDiesel
the front bumper in the 2000+ models is different, part of the orignal comment kev made about the lower front end. This lower front end, and lower hood is the reason that the E300's were not sold after 1999, NOT anything to do with emissions, or quality of diesel fuel, which is a popular myth.
Also I believe that the fenders were rolled and slightly flared more on the 2000+ but I could be wrong.

Hi Lightman,
Re the absence of Diesels for 2000, it's my understanding it was a combination of both. The redesigned front end of the car incorporated a more steeply raked hood, and the 24v pre-chamber diesel engine didn't fit any more.
The FAQ page of the Mercedes-Benz Canada web site also has this to say:
Will there be a DIESEL model in the 2002 model line-up?
No DIESEL models will be sold in Canada for the 2002 model year. Due to the variance in the diesel fuel quality sold in Canada (cetane value, sulfur content, level of contaminants) the Mercedes-Benz direct injection diesel engines (CDI) cannot be certified to comply with Canadian emissions standards. Our plans for future offerings of diesel models depend on any Canadian legislation that will require improved diesel fuel quality, an issue that is out of our control.
Do you think Mercedes was maybe just having us on?

IMHO, thats politics.
I spoke with someone at MB corporate and they told me it simply wouldn't fit in the new hood.
They would (do) look a little stupid if they explained the reason they couldn't offer a diesel is that they couldn't fit it in...My guess is that its a marketing decision to place the blame on us, rather than their design staff...
I think that statement you posted is total nonsense. If that were the case, why did they sell it (the 606 engine) from 95-99? Its not like magically in the year 2000 our diesel fuel fell off the charts, and now won't run in the cars....lol, my E300 is smooth as silk.
Granted the fact that I run premium diesel with 20% biodiesel blended in makes the engine much smoother and quieter
However, i ran standard #2 crappy garbage truck diesel that you see at every corner for a while when I had no choice. I still had to tell people it was a diesel on occasion - these things are smooth and quiet, nothing like the older generations of diesels.

1999 e55
Different rear taillights and side view mirrors. Lumbar support in 2000. Grey interior in 1999 is called Anthracite (darker) than grey interior of 2000 which is callled Charcoal. Slightly different layout of time/mileage display on odometer.

S210 E320 4MATIC
The difference is not with the fuel, but how it is used in the engine.
The new CDI engines are similar to the new VW TDI PD engines and have crazy 20,000+psi fuel fuel pressures.
Our crappy North American diesel (too much sulfur) burns the engines out and no car company would want to be replacing engines every 100,000km, especially on warranty.

chrome trim/moulding on front bumper is split
rear bumper chrome is in moulding as opposed to sittin on top of bumper
portion under front headlamps is integrated into bumper (where headlight washers would reside)
