need a new steering wheel
i have found 2 or 3 wheels off ebay...only problem the wheels are all either ash, graphite, or white with black. i have the tan interior. also i have a stock non bose radio. if i get a 2000+ wheel with steering wheel controls is it plug and play to use the controls. and another thing. will 00-02 wheels fit my 99.
example of ebay aution of style i like....i refuse to get the OEM wheel again.

i also like how the wood doesn't wrap all the way around the back. like its only on the front.
now that i think of it..some 96-99 with no steering wheel controls have a chrome star in the center. while others do not, like mine. which models get the chrome?

hi,
you can not put a 00-02 steering wheel with control buttons on a 96-99 car. the connections dont match.
the chrome star on the airbag starts at 00-02.
I also have a tan steering wheel in my 99 e320 in the car documents the color is called : mushroom.
I tried for a long time to find at ebay a wood/leather steering wheel with wood all around to the back (I like it better then the one you like) for my car and could not find it in my color.
its easy to find in black or grey but almost impossible in tan (mushroom).
if you do find it or the chrome star ,please let me know.

E430 Rocket,
I am tyring to upgrading to a wood steering wheel too. I plan to buy one from e-bay and have MB dealer install it.
How much did it cost you to get it installed? Any problem after installing the new wheel?
Thanks.

I just got my wheel from Jerry last week. I got the tan + burlwood standard wheel with smooth leather. Here's a photo. The color match is a little bit light for my leather, but seems to be close enough!

Went out of town right after the wheel arrived and haven't had a chance to install it yet. When holding the wheel up next the old one, it looks fine. Will post pics installed.
My stock airbag cover is actually a shade lighter than my OEM wheel (and a shade darker than the leather wrapping of the wood wheel.) Compare the top left corner of the airbag cover to the stock wheel color in pic #1.
Here is a series of pictures showing (1) my stock interior in cold light, (2) the wood wheel color in cold light, (3) the wood wheel color in warm light. My stock airbag cover is exactly the same color as the center of the wood wheel.

Gimme a PM and I'll give you my number....install is very, very easy!!!!
Here's Gregs210's post - it's what I used and it's exactly what you need to do to remove the wheel, it's a cake job to do. Did it myself when I had my wheel recovered.

36 Bit extended Torx bit set $16.99 - this tool is great for access to the two torx screws behind the wheel. NOTE: once those are loose they remain captured.
