Reattaching Sideview mirror glass

I searched the forum and couldn't find the answer to this. My wife clipped the sideview mirror and popped the glass out of the frame. try as I might I couldn't figure out how to reattach it. Can anyone provide some help? Sorry if this is answered somewhere else.

There should be a spring wire on the top of the mirror that should be unhooked but not removed. The mirror is then hooked in place with the plastic tabs on the bottom of the center of the mirror and then the wire spring rehooked at the top. However, I think there may be a tab broken on the mirror that will prevent you from reattaching it.

To replace/Reinstall a Mirror glass..The Outer Mirror Cover MUST be removed.. first fold the mirror back and Use a flat blade screw driver to release the metal spring clip one can see it when the mirror is folded back..then slide the mirror cover off ..resecure the mirror glass and latch it with the metal spring clip..

Mark,

Your technique to remove the cover is fine for a pre 2000 mirror but I can't get it to work with the year 2000 mirror with turn signal repeater. Do you know how to get that cover off?

new mirror assembly?

had my wife take the car to an independent shop this morning and they claim that the mirror has broken off and cannot be reattached. I will try the method at home tonight when my wife brings the car home but they are telling me I need an entire new assembly at $1K! This is an extremely reputable shop (two of my neighbors use them as well).
