Is the E220 Underpowered

Hi everyone,

I'm currently looking to buy my first E Class, and living in the UK fuel costs are one of my main concerns.
So I was thinking of getting an E220 Diesel, but I have heard worrying tales of how underpowered they are.
Obviously, in such a heavy car, I'm not expecting to race Porches away from the lights or anything. I'm talking about with four adults in the vehicle, would it be able to handle inclines on motorways for example.

Any opinions from you guys would be much appreciated.

Cheers

Small engines make sense on long runs. I drive 900Km on the petrol tank of my C180. That is what it does best.

Around town it is a tad ponderous but it goes just as fast in a traffic jam as an Enzo.

It will be extremly slow. It will be slower than E200 gas.
Can you get CDI engine?? Those are better and 280 CDI has better fuel economy and it's not that slow, about equal to E240 or even E280 gas.
