'98 E320 audio questions

'98 E320 audio questions
I may be acquiring a '98 E320. I'm a newbie, so bear with me, but currently the CD changer cartridge is stuck and won't eject. Also, I like having the ability to play CD's without delving in the trunk. So:
1) I assume a later model MB head unit would fit, but would be pricey and offer adequate performance? How pricey and the size looks like it would fit a normal DIN aftermarket unit, correct?
2) I've seen mention of fiber optics, please tell me that a '98 model wasn't affected.
3) Is this car one of the billions of Bose equipped cars out there? If so, does that mean trouble simply replacing the head unit?
4) Assuming the changer is shot, and the head unit was retained, an aftermarket unit won't work, would it?

At this point,I can only answer 4) since my knowledge of car stereo in general,and Mercedes stereo in particular, are both limited. An aftermarket changer can be fitted with an adapter. I use a Pioneer changer,but have an Alpine head unit, Alpine amp,along with JL Audio speakers. I didn't have a Bose unit in my car,and am unsure if the year of my car ever offered Bose. but in any case ,I was appalled at the sound of the stereo,and felt I HAD to change it. Hope i've helped you.

Thanks for your replies, I"m sure I'll just get an aftermarket head unit, but I still would like to know if there is an issue with an aftermarket receiver driving the stock speakers? Are Bose speakers an issue? I believe they have an unusually low impedance. How do you know if you've got Bose speakers?
Ideally I'd replace the head unit and all the speakers, but the money is not there to do that right now.
