Oil Fiters
I would like change the oil filter between service A & B intervals, on my 1998 W210 E430. What is the deal with the filter? it is just a filter replacement available only at the dealership? Do they sell after market metal encased filters for the car, does one brand tend to work better than others? Is the filter easy to get to and change? What intervals tend to work the best? Please advise,
Thanks for your time and efforts,
-Todd

hmm I change my oil filter everytime I change the oil...which is basically every 3000 miles.
I get my oil filters here:
http://mercedes.thebenzbin.com/?year...Field22222.y=5
and I got the Bosch one, but I guess the Mahle or the Mann will work too. Just drop it in.

Oil Filters
I just bought the car. . . .Are the drop in filters simple to replace w/o loosing oil? Where is it located on the block? Do you remove the metal casing and then the filter? Do you think the Bosch is the best out there? Thanks for your time. -Todd

Thank you!
I could not ask for more information. . .nothing in this world better than detailed step by step instructions with excellent pictures, Thank you !
. . . . Is there a filter brand that is much better than others? Is the "long life" filters worth putting in? Thanks again,
-Todd

You should use the fleece filter made by Mann or Mahle. If you're changing the filter between oil changes, you're probably safe with the regular paper filter. You can get either type of filter from most any online parts site. I have a preference for BuyMBParts.com.
Don't buy the crappy filters from AutoZone/PepBoys/AdvanceAuto. Get the real thing.
