2001 E320 4matic sedan
TO ALL 4MATIC OWNERS...
To maximize the longevity of your vehicles, it is recommended by Mercedes-Benz that you change the differential fluids at the scheduled service intervals. 4Matic vehicles have two differentials, one for the front axle and one for the rear. Both require fluid changing.

down in California just turned over 5000miles on his 01 Sedan.

Just the normal FSS fluid changes. Run Mobil 1 for all of them. Service it regularly and they will last a long time...

1996 E300 diesel
bought with 117k, now its at 153k
Illinois
Way too many problems for only 13 months with the car!
ECU rebuild, Ball Joints, glow plugs w/ glow plug regulator, front spring perches, 4 new bulbs in front, 1 new in the back. It needs a new blower motor regulator & 2 window regulators. In the summer, the stalk started to feel looser and stayed that way. Now, sometimes when I make a turn and use the signal it flicks on the brights. Anybody have this/dealt with this? PM me if u have

I have gone thru the owner's manual and there's no mention of changing the differential fluid or transmission fluid, etc. I bought the car used with 79K on it and I have no idea if its been done yet.

Diff interval
will be found in the diy section on www.benzworld.org w210 section.
Link to the service manual for maint. intervals and also a diy for the diff fluid change and the trans fluid and filter change. Trans you do about every 40k and it won't be in the manual since MB originally touted it as lifetime fluid and then changed their minds.

Way too many problems? Sounds like you didnt get a Pre Purschase Inspection. I can see the ECU and headlights going but the sping perches and the other things. A dealer or inde shop could find those thing before you got the car. Please do keep in mind it is a 1996 with 150k on it also. Things are going to go.

I lost my job in jan. so these repairs I guess hit me at a bad time. I'm a brokeass college kid. No, I didnt really inspect many those things much, you have me there. This was the smallest amount of miles I've ever had on a car the day I got her so I guess the excitement made me overlook things.

Year:1998
Model: E320
Country: USA
Mileage: 158k
Comments: bought used w/ 63K, replaced A/C condenser (caught a rock), MAF, 1 (RR) window reg, front springs.... after the spring perch failed due to rust / tore away, & RF spring fell out ((pre '99 owners NEED to research this - MB will repair if you catch pre-failure. In my case they replaced the perch at half labor cost, replaced 1 spring on their nickle & charged for part cost only to do the other spring)), also swapped the blower motor reg using a W140 unit ((found instructions on this forum & saved BIG $$ ~~ $1K)), brake lamp switch ((symptoms are EAS, no CC - research the fix on this forum & DIY for $20 vs. $400 at the "Stealer")).
Other than that, a couple of ball joints (at ~~ 100K mi... not bad), and usual wear / tune up items.
Sadie (hey.. my 8 yr old daughter named her) still runs strong like a tank, gets near 30 MPG highway, and the paint job still looks respectable.

search this forum for info on the blower motor reg (excellent instructions from a past member now posted on bimmerboard)... u can get a W140 type reg & splice it in for < $200 + under 2 hrs your labor. For the window regs - look around & you can find for ~ $100... the catch is u need to drill out the rivets and (unless u have a rivet tool) replace w/ shortie bolts (make sure u double up on the nuts & use lok-tite) - i did a google search & found video how to get the door panel off to access the window reg.
good luck<!-- google_ad_section_end -->

Cheapest car per mile that I have had. Still runs great, looks great and rides great. Some typical repairs, but the lower engine has never been opened.
