Hopefully, will last me awhile longer!
I too hope it will last many miles more with regular maintenance!

As long as your replace those differential fluids on the 4 Matic vehicles, you should be fine!

Glad to hear that the car still runs great! Makes me feel very confident that there is much more enjoyment to be had in my E320!

Purchased for $5400 last year with 160K. Been from the beach to Palm Desert many trips. Avg. MPG in HWY is 25.6 @ 72 MPH. Changed oil n filters. Brakes n shocks soon. Runs smooth n strong. I don't mind chaufferring the kids to swim practice in style. Good utilitarian vehicle that can still pull off PCH and blend into Javier's.

Comment:

1. It will need new front tires soon, barely driven, plenty of thread (90% left), but a few cracks on the inside and pretty sure expired as well.

2. Also, I will need to replace one Xenon bulb.

3. Headlight adjuster is not working, need to bring the car in, anyone had this problem?

4. Lost the electric steering wheel knob, is it possible to buy only one knob?

5. Creaking noises inside the car, not sure how to solve this?

6. front suspension needs to be diagnosed, knocking issue once in a while, prolly ball joint/control arm.

7. Wear and tear issue for the interior leather such as shift knob, steering wheel and very minimum cracks on the seats.

8. Need new wiper ASAP

9. Re-do the roof, prolly need new material

10. a few other problems regarding aftermarket mods that need to be dealt

2001 E320, approximately 6,850 miles on her. Haven't had any major issues, though recently I had to replace a sensor housing and seal on the transmission fluid pan. Was going to do the work myself, but decided it wasn't worth possibly damaging the actual sensor, so I had the work done @ $133.

I do need to replace an internal sensor inside the oil pan that connects to the dash-instrument warning. I'm told this was a common problem on the earlier model E-class but not really a problem on the '01's. The oil level is absolutely exact, and yet when I drive the vehicle, I will get either the stop engine / oil level too high or I get the oil level too low. I've even gotten both messages on the same drive. Quoted $350, plus oil and filter, if I want to do it all at the same time. I like to change the oil every 1k-1,250 miles, so I probably won't have it done until summer.

Comments: Daily driver, I am the third owner. So far I'm loving it and haven't had any major problems except the AC. About to replace the compressor / drier and also the sway bar links / bushing. After that doing the double din conversion, found the wood trim at a junk yard for $30! May also get some w211 rims from a friend.

Comments: This is my third Benz - my first was a 1999 SLK 230, hardtop convertible. I miss the convertible, until I get on Texas highways, where my current car shines.

Since I have low mileage..."it's age before beauty" - maintenance schedule adherence is a must.

My issues above routine maintenance, to date (I've owned it since 2005):
-Catalytic Converter - both sides (replacement covered under warranty)
-Motor Mounts (routine replacement due to age)
-Crankshaft Position Sensor (rare - but very easy to fix)
The later was so uncharacteristic, given it's the odd man out. I was in my own garage when it happened (car just wouldn't start - nothing else seemed wrong, behaved normally days before). Nothing like getting your car towed out of your own garage!

The only age-wise item that I need to see if my Italian mechanic can magically fix is the dash LED display. This winter, two tick marks began to not light up - the 5 and 6 both read "5".

I'm new to the forums and look forward to all the reading.

2001 E430 Glacier White, Grey Interior, 110,000 mi. Great car. Only complaint is the electroncs. Engine, transmission, AC, all in great shape. I take in to the dealer for service. WHY, you ask. Several time I have taken in the car with a specific complaint, they know exactly what it is. My independent ( used 1 time) got car back and CEL light came on from a change in oil viscosity. Otherwise, Here are my repairs:
Catalytic Converter ( passenger side)
MAF
Brake light sensor ( the car will not shift into gear, must use the pencil method on transmission to get into gear).
O2 sensor ( should I change all of them?)
Battery
Sensor on back of engine (??)
Several small oil leaks ( not on garage floor)- Rear Main seal is sweating and left valve cover gasket is sweating
I am always suprised on how many of the 1998 to 2002 E models there still on the road. The car has two mishaps. One, a driver ran a red light and clipped the from left front side- We hardly felt a thing. Two, my wife hit a rim and tire on the freeway and cracked the transmission housing, bent the from rim and put a hole in the exhaust pipe. Insurance covered everything. Again she felt hardly a bump. Also had a front tire blow in Santa Barbara on the 101 going 70mph and the car handled magnificently. I will not buy another brand other than MBZ for my wife ( I am partial to Porsches)

I re-read the initial post from 2006...I agree this is the last of the best. I can't help but look at my E430, and the newer smaller 55s...and it's really not that mine is larger...but I feel they got the short end on room.
My car just purrs on the long TX highways (where it's legal to do 80mph in West TX...ba-by!) and she can move off the line from a standstill like no one's business.
She's saved my life at least twice.
My mechanic just told me yesterday, she's got a long life ahead of her. I couldn't be more pleased.
I look at the newer models...then I pass. Too complex for me..like baby bear said "this is jusssst right".
