I know this is an old post and he only posted once... but with today's car technology how many miles can one really get from an original W210 Engine/Transmission???

Of course this is with keeping up to date on maintenance......hmmm what is the true life span 300k -400k+?????

I know in my case it's a little different with my engine being hand built

Mileage: 71k miles (114k kms)
Comments: Owned less than a week, but PPI showed no overbearing issues. Roads are salted like crazy up here in winter, so I'll have to watch rust forming at the bottoms of the doors. Undercarriage is like new. Spring perch mounts are rock solid. Pixels in radio and AC displays are wonky.

Still original. It's overdue for a fluid service, but otherwise, it's good.

1998 E300 Turbodiesel-drove for ten years/165k miles
Year: 1998
Model: E300 Turbodiesel
Mileage: 165,000

Comments:

I bought it from the dealer as a used car, one year old with 45k miles. I've been driving it for 10 years, and although I'd kind of like something new (just out of boredom), I can't justify dumping this one for what it would bring. Still looks new.

Mostly minor problems along the way, but dealing with A/C issues at present; most likely will be solved by sensor replacements, if the climate diagnostic is any guide.

Issues resolved have been:

Bulbs frequently burning out: fixed by using M-B bulbs
Climate control illumination going out: I give it a whack, and it comes back on.
A/C compressor failure: in my first year of ownership
Blower regulator failure: replaced myself, thx to this board

Otherwise, it's all been normal maintenance, glow plug replacements, trans fluid, ball joints, etc.

Good luck with it! I am approaching 150k on mine and have minimal trouble. Service it in accordance with recommendations and you should be fine. This forum has been terrific as a source of info and resources.

I don't think it is appropriate for someone to cast their negative opinions on or about another party, or their contents. How would you feel if someone castigated you, then added a inappropriate graphic afterwards?

I agree unless its one of those 'what do you think' posts asking for opinions, then its fair game to give your opinion
