2003 CLK430 Cabrio, 2009 BMW 535 iX Wagon
Red face

Year:2001
Model: E320 Wagon
Country: USA
Mileage: 131k, bought at 86k in 2007, with one previous owner
Comments: A lot of the common stuff (rear window regulator, MAF, door checks (why don't they seem to get a handle on those???), engine mounts, AC control buttons). Tranny service and spark plugs at 95k. Oil and filter within ~1k of due mileage per indicator, engine and interior air filters, brake fluid and other stuff as needed.

A nice, but somewhat sluggish tank with tons of space for a guy my size (6'6"). The rear end is developing creaks, rattles and thumps in the interior panels now. Starts shifting hard, and I found that ~700 mL of transmission fluid were missing. Found only moderate moisture underneath when I did the engine and tranny mounts ~2k miles ago. The shop who did the last oil change 5k earlier looked at the tranny fluid level and said it was OK. Will monitor and pray...

I am lucky enough I can afford them both. Well, maybe I cannot, but I do. While the CLK430 Cabrio is one gorgeous ride, and you can get well-preserved examples for significantly less than what they are worth right now, I would never dump my wagon for the CLK. The E-class is the daily driver, and it gets all the mileage and the dust. The CLK has way too little everyday practicality and is more the pampered keeper that I am hoping to still drive when I am retired. And I am hoping to still have that smile in my face when I drive it, or only just look at it.

But if I had to pick only one of them, while I am not retired yet, it would be the E-class.

Still Purring Along

1997 E-300D
208,812 miles
Body has a little rust in spots, mechanically great, a few of the dash lights are out; driver's outside mirror heating and dimming ots
Otherwise, just a great car and gets about 36 mpg on highway with the air on!

Angry 2001 E55

I have a 2001 E55 AMG with 185k miles. Just replaced water pump, belts and pulleys, tensioner, thermostat, fan clutch, and new HIDs. $1300k. Had rust taken care of in the fall with new full paint job $2500. Now I have a lifter noise so not sure how much longer she will last.
