Wheel size and Possible Lowering

I have a 2002 E430 Sport and am trying to make some tire/suspension choices. I currently have stock 17" rims and 235/45/17 tires. I have a H&R cup kit from an older E320 which uses the same shocks as the E430 (different springs though). I have installed the shocks but not the springs because I have been told they will not work (too low?). I have a few of questions regarding tires and springs. 1) Will the springs work if I use #3 pads so the car is not as low or are there other differences? 2) What are the widest f/r tires I can fit using the stock rims (with or without the lower springs) and not rub? 3) Can I stagger the front and rear tire size without messing up the ABS and traction control computer (I have seen this happen when a spare tire of diff. size was used because of a flat)? I was thinking of going with a 255/40/17 or 265/40/17 in the rear, if they will fit. Thanks for the advice.

In regards to the springs: Im not 100% sure but the front springs may not be set up to handle the added weight of the V8 engine compared to the V6. Not sure though, just a thought.
