Although it doesn't affect the output (at least not obvious), I guess I should make both sides the same - at the moment I have a 100Ohm and a 75Ohm one hooked up. Thanks no_clue, at least u gave me the heads up on hooking up the resistors in parallel

I also think the lights aren't as effective on Euro plates (being wider) and here, the rear plate is yellow and of a different surface, so the light doesn't get dispersed evenly over the plate nor appear as glarey as the white plates you guys have, hence don't appear too bright...but that's cool, I don't need the additional attention, hee, hee

This is a beautiful mod no_clue. I too was looking through the c class pages and read up on it. I even went as far emailing a guy to see if he could hook me up with the bulbs already done with resistors. I'll give this a shot...I hope I get the right parts....I too am a bit electrically challenged.

Somehow it seems to work better with the W124 lights (i.e. yours).
Hey Chris, did u try it without a resistor? My friend's W124 might do this but not sure if we need to get a resistor...I suspect it doesnt need it as no_clue had said.

ACtually the bulbs ended up popping so I jsut left them out. I should get a resistor in there though, I dont like warning messages that much!
And I'll try to take pics

hahah........actually that's how I have noticed also at night driving.
So many, I mean SO many occasion I am just crusing..and I can see those Z350 or Vette coming from behind w/ high speed.
All the sudden they slow down right behind me!!! (I am not on left lane and they can pass me easily) Then took off again w/ more "civilized manner".
Ever since I have done this mod, I notice I drive "slower" and more mpg!

NO CLUE, On my 1997 E-420 I have to used two 100 ohms resistors, one on each light. I don't know why.
With only one resistor I was getting warning for bad lamp.
The temperature on resistor is reaching about 72 °F (~25 °C), which is ok as long as I am keeping it away from wiring and lens, which I did.
Thanks again for your help.

GOOD PIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
72F is cooler than your body temperature. Even if you have it sit on the lens, PVC usually withstand up to 400F.
Don't worry about it.

Great mod!
First off, thanks no_clue for the teriffic mod information and the great documentation you provided! The quality of light difference is amazing.
I bought 39mm LED's w/9 lights inside from a Hong Kong vendor on Ebay. Ordered them Monday and received them on Friday ... excellent turnaround considering the distance. Bought the pair of resistors from the Shack and as it turns out I needed both of them on my '01 E430 ... only one side didn't satisfy the "bulb out" on the multifunction display. These LEDS are bright, maybe a bit more than my liking but I suppose I'll get used to it .. I wanted a bit more subtle lighting but the more I look at it the more I like it.![Big Grin](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/biggrin.gif)
As you can see the festoons I pulled out were blackened from use so the lighting upgrade is definitely noticeable. I'll post some better pics tommorrow under better conditions! (last pic was with flash)
