A/C Smell FIXED!

Hi! I posted last week regarding a moldy smell coming out of my vents when I turned on the air and I had it fixed today at the MB dealer. They replaced the DASH FILTER and the smell is GONE. Only $200.00.

Also in my earlier posts, I was looking for cd options for my car as mine did not come with one. I purchased it used and the previous owner had it on a lease. She must have installed an aftermarket deck and then took it out upon returning the car, now my deck is all messed up. I need HELP finding an aftermarket deck for my car. I cannot enjoy it without my TUNES!!! A new MB deck will cost $800 from the dealer, and still no cd player. Any advice?

Disgruntled,

Jamie

jamie- i hope the smell fix is more permanent than a band aid. if the source
continues to be a build up of spores in the system, it would just be a matter
of time before you will have to swap filter again. those filters aren't cheap.
do post an update in a few months/weeks.

Try to locate a used head unit for your car on eBay. Make sure that it comes with the security code information and that the serial number has not been ground off (i.e. stolen).

If you go the aftermarket route, your best bet is probably Alpine or Nakamichi. The trend for radios if flashy and brushed aluminum/chrome. Fine for a Honda, disgusting in a Benz.

Alpine, and Nakamichi even more so, make some head units that more closely match OEM appearance.

Crutchfield has several decks that will fit your car but I cannot comment on them individually. I can tell you that in my 98 e320 I didn't have any luck with used MB cd changers and eventually got a USA SPEC changer. I love it. The one for your vehicle, the USA SPEC MERC99, is $599..........

Jamie,

I failed to notice that your car is a 2002. In 2000, Mercedes completely integrated the audio system with the car's fiber optic network. The connection between your head unit and the amplifier is fiber optic. This means that to replace your head unit with an aftermarket one, as both Bob98E320 and I suggested, would also require replacing the amplifier and speakers. (The Bose speakers are low-impedance, and thus do not generally work with most amplifiers.)

Sorry but I have to disagree with Lexrex. I have done this mod earlier this year and I thought it was also not do-able. But take a look at this...

I only have a alpine HU running and it works perfectly with the Bose Amp and speakers. FYI, I have a 2002 320

I stand corrected. I based what I said on what I had read in other posts. I guess there is confusion regarding what exactly connects to the fiber optic interface in MY2000+ cars.

So,
'99 Fiber optic CD changer
'00-'02 Fiber optic CD changer + fiber optic multifunction controls

???

I don't quite understand what you meant. Is it a question or a comment? From my limited knowledge, the fiber optic works hand in hand with the stock CD changer and stock HU. If you want a aftermarket CD changer that goes with the stock HU, then it won't work because of the fiber optic connection. Someone corrects me if I am wrong.

Cheers,
