1997 E320
Life span of Bosch alternator brushes?
My car, a 1997 E320, has about 120,000 miles on it and I am a little worried that my alternator is going to quite on me at some inconvient time. I have read that the alternator lasts a very long time, but that the bushes will need to be replaced at some point. Does anyone have any experience with this? Is there a warning before the brushes are completely worn?

If you are that worried, replace it now. Mine went out at 100K miles.

1998 E300 TD (W210)
I have 57,000 Km on the meter and had to replace the cutout a week ago. Mine started giving me a battary charge error. I would suggest not to touch it till the time you get the error....keeping in mind it only takes 20 mins to replace the cutout.
