Dash Replacement or repair
I have a 1997 E 420 88,000 miles with around 6 small cracks in the dash! Can these be repaired or is is best just to replace it? If I need to replace it are there any step by step instructions on its removal and install?
Thanks,
Troy

hi , the repair does not last a long time ,
in 96-97 mercedes had a lot of problems with the material of the dashboard ,
they were cracking after a short period in the sun .
I know at the time they were replacing them on warrenty.
it is very complicated to replace it , its not just the upper part , you have to take apart the whole dashboard including the a.c. the radio the shift section and the gauges area.
I think its a job for a professional . if it does not look too bad just learn to live with it.

I think it was about $1200 for parts and labor but i made a deal with the local MB dealer and only paid for the dash, it all depends and if you know someone that works in MB dealer you could get it done for few hundred because MB knows about it and thy even have those dashes in stock most of the time. Go to them and try work something out.

I have a 98 E430 with the same problem (only 2 cracks however). I didn't notice them when I bought the used car, but they have always bothered me too. I assume because it was originally a Florida car, it got plenty of sun
I've never looked into the fix/replace options, but based on the replacement cost mentioned in the other post, I'd investigate the repair route.
