How is the deal for this E320 wagon?

OK, I was told that 2003 E320 wagon is W210 instead of W211 so I'd probably better move discussion here.

I found an E320 wagon in local dealer and he asks for $27800. Is this a good price? How much room do you think they will have for negotiation?

BTW, based on the carfax, this car was auctioned before the title was transfered to the dealer. How bad the auctioned car would be?

Let's see, all these items you are listing are standard features on the cars except for the "moon roof".

You mention leather. Is it the full leather option or just the leather inserts which is standard?

I am assuming this car is still under warranty, but you need to determine for how much longer based upon the in-service date. I don't think I'd buy one of these cars without the factory warranty in place unless you knew the seller.

There are SO many of these W210 wagons for sale that it has really depressed the market. We bought an '02 exactly one year ago w/44k miles and 6 weeks of remaining warranty. We paid $23,800 (44k miles, htd seats, glass roof, Bose) and I thought we were getting a real steal! Not so, I realized later. We got a fair buy. The selling dealer was into the car for nearly $27k and had the car for almost 1 year! I had my local dealer run the master vehicle inquiry and the car had a spotless warranty claims history and all maintenance had been completed on time. I'm glad we had the brief warranty remaining as we needed it within a short period.

You CANNOT use published bood values on these cars, the info is bordering on meaningless. There are way TOO many of these cars for sale.

The $28k price is about $3k high. I would not pay $0.01 more.

These cars are absolutely wonderful when they're "right" (meaning check engine light isn't on) and they offer remarkable economy, comfort, luxury and overall driving experience. I am a HUGE fan of Euro wagons - this is clearly one of the most elegant around - - truly a wonderful car.

Question uberwgn & bzlvr

In your signature, you mentioned having an E320T wagon. I have seen some for sale that were called E320S. Is there a difference, or is your "T" turbocharged, whereas the "S" is not?

I'm also confused about a 2003 model year that is a W210. Could someone please explain that to me?
Thanks,
M

The E320T is the W210T wagon where the E320S is the S211 wagon. Just a difference in years - no turbo.

It's not uncommon for a new model rollout to occur over a period longer than one year.

Ex: When BMW rolled out the new 3 series in '99, the convertibles carried over for one year with the previous body style as did the M3. A lot of times, the lower volume / specialty vehicles within a product line take a little bit longer to develop properly since the main focus and resources are directed at the higher volume versions of the model. Hence the reason the 210 wagon carried over after the 211 sedans were available...

I'd be a little cautious about any car that was purchased at an auction. However, I think there are MB-only and MB-Dealer-only auctions where cars are (2 logical reasons):

-Sent there because other dealers simply don't have the room (physical space) for them.

-MBs coming off lease that the "turn-in" dealer didn't buy because DCX wanted too much money for them.

-Sent there because one dealer might already have 1 or 2 that are very similar.

-Sent there because a vehicle doesn't meet certain internal parameters that the owner/managers have established (more than 50k for example).

Another point is the warranty issue. If I were you, I'd buy a MB Certified Pre-Owned vehicle. They have to have been in service (titled) for less than 6 years and have less than 75,000 miles. The car you are considering would meet both of those eligibilty requirements.

You get 12 months/100,000 miles with the CPO, PLUS you can buy an additional months in 12 month increments. I don't know how many extra you can buy, but that is probably dependent on the model and/or model year.

Good Luck!

Sorry, M. T = Touring = wagon (in America). The car is a basic 3.2L V6 gasser. No other variation was offered in NAmerica in the W210 line-up.
