Brake bleeding question

'97 E420, I just replaced the left rear caliper and am trying to get the pedal hard.

After pumping about a pint of fluid out of that caliper (with a Motive power bleeder) I still have a soft pedal.

Before I continue bleeding, I'm wondering if I may have to bleed all 4 calipers. Can air migrate from the lines of one wheel to the others on an abs system?

Or should I just keep bleeding the caliper that was replaced?

Thanks a lot guys, any tips appreciated!

John

Did you compress the caliper piston to remove the old caliper? If so, was the master cylinder cap on or off?

Some air may have migrated to the other rear wheel.

I didn't compress the pistons when removing the caliper, but I'll try bleeding the other side. Thanks for the reply.

Make sure you keep the fluid pickup in the Motive tank submerged so that no air flows into the master cylinder. The bleeder wants to move around with the hose attached because it's so light but do your best to keep it upright while bleeding.

Good Luck

I have a Motive bleeder also and I have found that I still need to do a "pump the pedal" bleed to get some small air bubbles out and get my pedal hard again. Same thing on my M3. I don't understand why this is, but it is a consistant issue.

Interesting - I bought the power bleeder so I wouldn't have to use the pedal to bleed the brakes!

Has anyone else experienced this, or know what might cause it? Thanks!
