Rear View Interior Mirror LOOSE
Rear View Interior Mirror LOOSE
The interior rear view mirror works fine interms of remote key lock as well as the sensors to darken the view. However it is loose I have checked and the socket is pretty tight that holds the ball. The plastic around the ball and socket is very loose as a result I cannot adjust the rear view mirror and it is very annoying. Is there any way to open it and tighten the interior screws if there are any? I will appreciate if someone can provide the instructions on how to fix this?
Thanks in Advance.

You have to take the mirror down and split the 2 halves of the body. You will see where the socket connects at the top inside of the mirror. It breaks away and has to be reinforced. I was able to drill small holes on either side of the bracket and wrap wire around it to hold it tight. In effect I stapled it back together.

This video clip might take a little longer to load, but you will know how easy it is.
rear view mirror loose help
OK. I removed the mirror--very easy but. Here is what I learned. Turn the mirror around backwards before removing (mirror facing the windshield). The mirror swivels indefinitely. Then slowly with even force pull down on the mirror while twisting forward towards the windshield. (this allows you to see the ball and socket so you can adjust how hard you pull and slowly remove the mirror) the wires stay attached and give you just an inch or so. Then separate the two halves as instructed in above message.
Once apart you will see where the problem is--mine was loose where the black plastic and retention clips hold the glass, not at the socket/ball connection. I had to rebend the retention clips, use double sided tape, and some silicone. The mirror is now perfect, tight, and does not even vibrate on my lowered car with stiff suspension. Be patient, lots of plastic clip connections that can and will break on older cars.
