What does this Trouble Code Mean?

My 98 E430 Check Engine Light came on the other day, so I took it to the auto parts store today and they put the OBDII Trouble Codes reader on it. It said P0170 Fuel Trim Malfunction (Bank 1), and P0173 Fuel Trim Malfunction (Bank 2). Does anyone know what these Trouble Codes mean?

Also, are there any Service Manuals available somewhere for purchase (E-Bay, discount bookstore, etc) ?

Thank you!

Thank you for the heads up (fellow NW-er!), I will search on here MAF and see what others have experienced. A couple of years ago my 3000gt starting throwing MAF trouble codes, but the problem was really just a dirty Throttle Body. Hopefully I'll get lucky again.

If you can't get more info from other sources, let me know. I have an ODBC code reader in my trunk that I haven't yet tried out, that comes with a CD that explains the codes. This will give me a reason to get off my butt and load it up.

It's the MAF. You don't have to replace the whole unit, just the part where it contains the sensor.

Make sure you get OEM part (made my Bosch), do not go w/ any sort if after market.

You can buy the sensor itself on ebay (OEM) for around $120. Dealer sell whole unit for $280.

Take 15-20 min to replace. The code will vanish eventually.

Code will vanish in 45 mins of driving. Not sure why this is, but it worked for me.
