HID headlight working only occasionally
Hi from Switzerland,
on my '98 E280 4matic I have the HID (Xenon) headlights.
About a week ago the left side one started working only occasionally. It would work for a while, then next time the lamp would either fail to come on at all or it would flicker for a while.
The lamp is okay (only 1 year old, 200$ !) because they tried a brand new one and it gave the same problem.
Anybody had a similar experience that would be willing to point me in the right direction ?
Thanks
Flavio

MBWorld Fanatic!
The xenon lamp is fine, however, xenon lamps have a voltage ballast and transformer type equipment to convert the 12V power supply to around 12,000V to provide sufficient power to operate the lamp.
The voltage ballast and transformer could be at fault, or possibly other components of the Xenon lighting system.

Thanks Patrick.
They've replaced the transformer and I'll be trying it out over the weekend.
Hopefully the problem's solved.
Once thing is sure, xenon lights aren't cheap. The price for the transformer (I don't know if they change the ballast along with it) is USD 400.00.
