Changing out the Wheel Center Cap

How simple is it to replace the center cap on OEM and AMG alloy wheels? I would like to change mine out to something different but am not interested if I have to have the tires broken down from the wheels...

Thanks for a reply...

Not hard. Easiest way to do it without any risk of damaging your wheels is to puncture the old center cap with a screwdriver and pull it off.

Thanks lexrex. I found a picture of one on a web site and saw the tension ring, so I thought maybe it was simply pulling them off. Would like to save the original center caps but don't see any provisons for using a special tool to get them off.

can't you just tap out from the backside with a eg 27mm socket and an
extension? were you trying to avoid removing the rim? no need to separate
tire from rim. that's the method i've used before

Yeah, Richard, they just get knocked out from the backside when the wheel is off the car.

I was at the local dealership a few weeks ago and he had 4 different versions of OE center caps that could be used.

Thanks Raymond and Uberwgn;

You know how sometimes something is so obvious, you don't see it? Man, do I feel silly. Not sure why I was thinking I would have to unmount the tires, but thanks to both of you for the answer.

I didn't really want to punch a hole in the OEM center caps; would like to save them as souvenirs.
