IPOD into E320

I own a E320 Year 2000 4Matic. I wonder if anyone here know how to hook up the ipod into this car. Don't want to use cassett or FM transmitter.

Please let me know what parts do it need and any helpful instructions will be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

Alpine makes several quality head units that have the provision to add an IPOD. Look here

I thought the FM transmitter sound quality would suck... but bought a Belkin unit just to see since it was only like $40 bucks. I was pretty surprised at how well it does through the stock Bose system. It's a way cheap solution till you decide to upgrade to an Ipod ready deck.

Cheers,
Jason

If you can get an wired RF Modulator, the sound is very good and you wouldn't have issues with the signal fading in and out in metropolitan areas. I have done this in my Cobra and I am very satisfied with the sound quality.

Thanks

Ask Steve. He installed a Comand navi on my 98 E and added an ipod option attached to my auxiliary. Never used the CD changer after that.

Check to see if the Bipes Automotive MP3 adapter fits your car (formymercedes.com). If it does, it's the best way to do it and maintain stock appearance. Signal transmission is lossless. ~$120

I used the Harman Kardon Drive+Play

The control functions are great, installation was simple and using the FM trap (a device that injects the FM modulated signal into the head unit's antenna input) the results are a fade-free, clear and virtually noiseless signal from iPod to speakers. Well worth the investment, and each vehicle still has the stock radio/cassette/CD changer with no modifications.

After trying everything else (cassette adapter, iRock, iTrip, iRiver, iCarPlay, TransPod) I installed one in my E, one in my C and one in my truck - HK makes the best I've found.

I replaced the MB stereo with a Kenwood unit with USB input. Installed the USB connector in the glovebox where I can connect the ipod or simply a memory stick full of MP3s.

How about this custom setup?

The original Ipod cable was retrofited to a phone cable connector RJ11 to the Aux cable of the COMAND 2.0.

Dan,

Can you give us more details on your install? I also have the COMAND 2.0 and would like to connect the iPod.

its actually easier to wire up the aux. wire in the back of the comand. I forget which pins you have to connect, but its not that hard of a job.

I am so impressed with this. I am going to wire like this somehow. You would save me a great deal of trial and error if you could tell me which wires went where. I was working with cat5 cable and know there must be a way to do it. Any help you could provide would be appreciated.
