Oil Reccomendation Change 2000 E320
Had an A Service done on my 2000 E320 and noticed that the MB dealer used Mobil 1 5W-40 on the RO instead of the 0W-40 previously.
They told me that the dealership received a bulletin from MB in June advising the change.
Anyone know why, or care to speculate.
Not being an oil expert, what's the big difference that would cause Mercedes to issue such a change?

I don't know the answer, but I bought my 2001 E320 in early June this year. The FSS says I am not due for a "B" service for another 5000 miles, and you now have me wondering what it is in my car. I bought a quart/liter of Mobil 1 0W-40 to have in the trunk in case of an oil emergency, so I'd better ask them to make sure. Thanks for the "heads-up".

I doubt that you will have an oil emergency that 1 qt would take care of. If you have 0W-40 in it now then if you were to have to add a qt, then put the same in. If you are changing all the oil, then go to the recomended weight. I have used 5W-30 or 10W-30 AMSOil in mine. My guess there was a problem with leaks or Mobil had another formula change.
