Does anyone do A & B services? Why?

Just wondering if there is anything they actually do that is worthwhile on these services. I already change the oil myself, air filters, fuel filters(diesel), cabin dust filter, and can rotate the tires. This stuff is easy and mercedes charges a TON. Is there anything worthwhile that i'm missing that they actually do? Aside from checking coolant and battery levels...? Thanks,
Dave

Sounds like you pretty much got it covered. The only thing about the A and B services is that they are free for the first 4 years/50,000 miles for 2000 and newer cars.

Once that period id over, I will stop going in for A and B's too.

ahh you b a s t a r d s I forgot about that. My '99 is my responsibility to maintain, and I thought a $279 oil change was a little absurd.

What made me even more upset was when the dealer charged me $106 to change my prefilter and fuel filter(diesel).
Since then I learned how to do it myself in 5 whole minutes. I recently bought the parts online for $9. Talk about a ripoff!

next time is the coolant !

Lightman,

I think you do a good job, cover almost everything. May be you need to change the 'Coolant' after the first 3 years and then every 2 years (max). I think this is critical for the radiator, water pump, thermostats,..
For the transmission, I think it's life time. About the Brake fluid, they recommend every 2 years but I don't think it's necessary. Maximun, may be every 4 years (I haven't changed it on my Honda since 1991). Oh, don't forget to change the spark plugs every 3 to 4 years or 60K miles. that's it.

Lol just teasin ya. Diesels make their power by compression ignition not internal combustion. The compression and heat ignite the fuel, no spark plugs =]

One glow plug went bad on my '99 E300 at 54,000. Mercedes wanted $25 for the plug and 3.5 hrs for the labor ($75/hr). They can replace all 6 plugs in 4 hours.

I was thinking about replacing the coolant on my E as well. I don't recall from where but is there a solution that Mercedes sells that helps condition the cooling system to break up and clean it free of oxidation and corrision out before you flush the cooling system?
