Resonator delete without using straight pipes?

i asked this kid at my school (best mechanic at my school) to remove the resonator from my car, and seeing how u guys did this, i told him to order me some straight pipes to replace the resonator, but he said that instead of removing the resonator, he's going to take the stuff out of the resonator and then weld it back together, will this have the same effect as replacing the resonator with straight pipes? hes doing this tomorrow, so any response would be appriciated.

Though that is certainly doable, but I do not see why you would want to do that. It would be so much more work to gut your resonator and then put it back on than to simply install straight pipes. Plus, you would have to buy new resonators if ever you want to put them back on in the future.

I'm not really sure, but your exhaust might be a bit quieter with the gutted resonators instead of straight pipes, but then again it may not. The gutted resonators may also cause annoying resonances in the exhaust's sound.
