Electrical short?
so I think it is an electrical short because when i tryed to close it at work it just poped right back open. Another thing was my door locks kept locking and unlocking so hence the car alarm going off earlier. Anyone know anything about this it would be great help befor I take it to a mechanic and he runs tests and charges me out the *** just to know what the problem is
wild guess, of course but picture this...
you lock the door and it arms the alarm. but because the pin switch is right
at that point where the smallest movement toggles it between open and close
(electrically) the security believes the door just opened illegitimately...so it
sets off the siren.
similarly, you're driving and the road vibrations triggers the door into believing
it's being opened, so the door plunger raises and lowers.
fortunately these door pin/switches are less than $20 and are easily replaced.
i've not tested or experienced the trunck lid unlatching so unsure how/why
this affects the alarm....or the causal connection to the above theorized
pax door pin/switches.
nuther thought: tape a dime on the door itself, so that when closed, it will
make contact directly over the door pin/switch. then see if the alarm or
trunk ailments reappear.
the door pin is electrically, "normally closed" ie when the door is open the switch
is spring loaded to close the circuit. it is my theory that it either needs adjust-
ment, or replacing. by placing the dime there, it serves as a spacer to jam the
switch more...when door closed....so that the switch is in electrically "open"
state.
if the dime trick suppresses the ailments (alarm, door un/locking trunk...) then
this appears to support my wild *** guess (door switch). this part seems to
be a weak point with many MBs
