hello folks, my 98 e320's sunroof wont slide any more, it goes back 2-3 inches and make a grinding noise. Are there cables up there or something, called the dealer and they were not interested in tellin g me anything except bring the car in and they'll fix for $500-$1000.

i have the same problem, ppl from another board told me it's a easy $50 fix. u need to buy 2 new cables and covering plates. then:
1. gently push the glass backwards as you are retracting the glass, that'll help the glass to go all the way back.
2. on both sides you'll see the plate w/ a screw holding it down. take the screw & plates out
3. you'll see 1 cable on each side. pull them out.
4. install new cables and new plates
5. re-sync the sunroof
g/l!

My 525i BMW once did that grinding noise. It turned out to be a plastic depree on the moon roof track. Check the tracks first for clearance and lubricate before u spend $$$
