My car isn't safe?

I found this clip

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vp2N0gce0-k

It shows a 1997 E class where the dummy looks like it was completely killed. Did they fix this for 1998? I'm sorta of worried now because I thought my car was much safer then it is. I mean wow, that is only a 40 mph crash..

Enjoy. To say your car is not safe is simply not true. The W210 was rated the safest vehicle in the world, and it still is.

I was talking about my vehicle, not the entire E class line. Mine is a 1998, which falls under the 1997-2000 category. It got an "A" for average rating where as the other E class sedans that are newer got a "G" for good. I never said mercedes weren't safe in general, i was refering just to mine and any other in that year interval. Did they improve at all in 1998 compared to the tested 1997? I would assume not because they are the same body?

IIHS would have tested it if the cage was improved in 98, however Mercedes didnt make any major changes in the cage or its design in 98.

Your 96 falls under the 97-2000.

IIHS nor NHTSA tested the side impact results. However from the pictures I have seen before, the cage held up very well. Plus after 2000+ front/rear side airbags became standard along with head curtain airbags.

Head curtain bags are one of the things that I wish my car had.
Next car will have it for sure.
