looking to buy... ideas?
We were looking at this car over the weekend, but I am puzzled. It's a 2001 E320 w/1800 miles for 44K, any good. I checked with edmunds and it is right in the money for a certified car, but this one is not starmarked. Starmarked would be $1.5K more. It has the basic equipment (i.e leather, sunroof, climate, but no CD changer). I have no clue why would someone trade-in this car. Then again for a couple of grand more you can get a 2003. Any comments, suggestions...thanks

hi,
i think it sounds too high. lots of trade ins against new '03 models. my recent e-class buying experience tells me you should be at maybe $10-12k below orig msrp on this car. figure if about 48k msrp, then invoice around 44k, and knock off another 10%-15% at least for depreciation of almost 2 years now. check the in-service date too, to determine the length of oem warr left to you. heck, if its a late 2001 date, you may not yet care about starmark.
just one man's opinion. good luck, friend.
thanks , j.
