2001 E320 shift question
I am planning on having my transmission fluid flushed in a few weeks but I had a question. When your 320 shifts from 1st to 2nd, does it give a little nudge in the pants. If I accelerate slowly it kinda kicks a little into second, even when warmed up. If I get on it a little, its smooth as butter. Car has 85k on it and I am hoping a fluid change (the 1st one) will smooth the shift a bit. It's not real noticeable, but I've only had the car a few months so I don't know if its normal.

supposidly* there is a field resettable method of clearing the adaptive transmission.
you may want to try this to see if the kick shifting feel is a by-product of this
adaptive feature. perhaps starting from scratch might help. (you know what
adaptive feature is, right?)
so by clearing the memory, you can drive as you normally do and see if the
learning algorithm adapts better to your current style.
ECU reset
1. Turn the ignition key to the on (not start) position.
2. Press the gas pedal to the floor and hold for five seconds.
3. Turn the key to the "off" position (don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal.
4. Wait at least two minutes for ECU to reset.
* i drive like someone's grandma so unable to tell the diff as much, say,
versus someone who is a more assertive driver.

but sometimes there is a little nudge.that usually happens to me when i floor it a couple of times for the fun of it and then try to drive slow again. it wouldn't let me shift and it gives it a hard punch towards second.

my 2000 E320 does the same thing (hard shift from 1st to 2nd gear) if the RPMs go above 2100 just before it shifts to 2nd.
If I ramp up slowly to just below 2000 RPMs in 1st gear, then it shifts very smoothly to 2nd gear.
Also if I floor it to above 3500 RPMs and higher, it also shifts smoothly to 2nd gear.
Is it OK to change the trans. fluid since they say it is sealed. My car now has 78,000 miles.
