New guy checkin in
I have lurked off and on and I thought I'd finally come on board.
My name is Michael (obviously). I have a 01 Silver/Black E320.
Dad had a 00 from new-120k and traded it in on a W211 in early 2006. He had a few of the usual problems-blower motor, maf, and Mercedes paid to replace the engine block @60k.
Come time for me to get a new car, he said that he shouldnt have traded his bc it was so good. So i found my car last July, 68k for 15k even. Needed a service B and cats (under warranty), but since then, its been great (74k now).
I was coming from a 98 Grand Cherokee with the 5.9 liter V8 so I am loving the smoothness and esp. the gas mileage. I don't have any great plans for this (had over 5k in the Jeep w/mods, it was in the 13's NA), but I will stick around for a few things:
1. Maintenance. It has dropped to ~28 mpg on the highway, so i was wondering what I could do, I'm expecting more in the 30-31 range. I don't have any records, so air/fuel filters and spark plugs?
2. curb rash on a wheel to where I will have to replace the rim when new tires are necessary. Will definitely be looking at wheel input from you guys.
Anyways, I love this car, I am applying to medical school this summer, so hopefully I can keep this car for 5 more years until I get a job (and maybe 10 more when I actually make some decent money).
Oh PS, did I pay too much for the car? I think its a total base model, has heated seats, but doesnt even have the trunk release in the car. So no pics either, you all've seen silver base cars on stock 16's
Look forward to stickin around here.
Sounds like a good price. Since repairs can easily cost $1k a pop, whether you got a good deal depends less on the initial purchase price and more on the condition and maintenance. There are cheaper ones out there, but it's worth it to get one that's well sorted out from the beginning.
Your trunk release button isn't behind the gear shift next to the mirror control?
If you have a sunroof, then you probably also have the Bose stereo. This + heated seats means your car is probably not a base model.
P.S. Good luck on the the MCAT (if you haven't taken it already) and getting into med school.
