2 Brake Pad Questions

1. I'm replacing my pads with Axxis Deluxe Plus. Any suggestions on the best (i.e. cheapest) place to buy?

2. Can you tell by just looking at the rear calipers without pulling the pads whether you have 1-pin or 2-pins? (My car is a 1998.)

Don't know who sells them cheap - they are expensive. Grab a flashlight and get up under the car and you can see if 1 or 2 pins without taking off wheels or jacking the car up. The 1 pin type is hard to find.

I can wander into my local foreign auto parts store and they always have that pad.

Can you take a flashlight and look thru the rear wheel and inspect the side of the caliper to verify how many pins??

I've purchased from these guys a couple of times. They're NY so that may not help you.

Yes.

The one pad model is hard to find. Some aftermarket brake pad makers don't make the 1 pin pad.

www.napaonline.com has 2 Axxis front model #'s and 2 rear models with 2 pin rear:

Front
BA 0881578M $124.00
BA 0881578D $104.00

Rear - 2 pin
BA 0881497M $62.99
BA 0881497D $47.99

From www.beckarnley.com:

"088s are Axxis brand pads; C is Ceramic, D is organic, M is semi-metallic."

So the Ceramic fronts are 088-1578C. I did not see a Ceramic rear listed

Drats. It looks like I have the single pin version. Or am I looking at the wrong thing? Pics attached. (I just washed the car so any dampness you see is water.)

This is odd, because my chassis #10368 (last digits of VIN, right?) should put it in the 2 pin category.

Looks like Axxis makes pads for both 1 & 2 pins.

I have a set of brand new Brembo drilled rear rotors and Rotex rear 1 pin pads. I bought them from brakeworld.com, but never installed, end up with Brembo BBK. If you are interested, please let me know.

Thanks Ben'z for the offer. I already ordered my rotors. I think I'm going to stick with Axxis pads b/c I'm looking to eliminate brake dust.

I'm hoping someone can look at the photos I attached in the post above & confirm that I indeed have the 1-pin setup.

E55Kev,

Found the 1 & 2 pin rear Axxis Deluxe Plus pads for sale here.

1-pin part# 45-08760D
2-pins part# 45-06030D

Is the single pin visible in the picture below the pin they are referring to for the pads?

Thx.

Thanks for the link. Don't buy from them - buybrakes.com prices seem to be high when I compared my E55 pad prices. I got better prices from:

www.stoptech.com (distributor)
www.zeckhausen.com (retailer)

That pic is the single pin - which is right in the middle.
