E class or S class?

E class or S class?
I've been reading about the common problems for the W210 and W140's and after driving an S420, I'm not sure if it would be the better choice? It had over 100k and the suspension didn't seem as smooth as I thought it would be, Id almost describe it as a bit jarring over certain bumps. Maybe the air suspension needed work?
I've had 2 540i's (E39's) and an M5 (E34) as well as a 740il (E38). I haven't had a chance to drive a E420 yet but will be shortly. Which car would be a better purchase in terms of having less problems? I've found some pretty big lists of common problems for the W210, but would a S420 or S500 be worse? I'm a DIY'er but some bigger projects need to be left to the pros. The things that scare me on the S class are the doors and air suspension costing a fortune..

On the W140, you should be most worried about A/C evaporator.
In my experience, the W140 is less costly to maintain and better built than the W210. The later (1996+) W140s were well sorted out compared to the early ones.
