Auto Door Locks??

I have heard of others talk about auto door locks. When you put into drive or start to move the doors lock automatically.
I have a 1997 E-320 and I do not have this feature. Now I have to push the door lock on the dash. Would like an auto feature considering my wife drives through some rough neighbor hoods and if she forgets she could get into a bad situation.
Is there a way to activate this to be automatic?

My E220D does lock the doors when you drive off. It comes with factory alarm and towing-off protection though. The option codes for the alarm system are: K02 - 551 - 817 - 882

I think option 882 is it: "Passenger compartment protection/Towing-off protection (with anti-theft warning system only)

For W210s, it's a feature of the "facelift" models, i.e. 2000-on.

I've been able to de-activate this auto locking feature via the dash switch on both our 1999 and 2002 W210 cars. I think I held the switch for 10 seconds only.

Are you talking about the central lock button on the dash? I tried this a couple times this morning both ways.
I held it in the lock and unlock position for 30 seconds.

Does the car have to be off or running?

Is this feature activated from the remote somehow ?

Thanks for your help

Yes, that is the switch I am referring to.

I suspect the car has to be running to re-program the function.

Did you check your OM?? The procedure, as well as other programmable features, is outlined there.

I have tried it with the car on and off. I looked in the Manuel and nothing is mentioned about this feature. Strange if the other w210s have this feature.
I may call the dealer on Monday and see what info they can provide. Not holding my breath there

I just did this and for me my ML350 had to be running. I tried it with the ML off and no good, then I put it in drive and held the lock button down for around 30 seconds. It locked the doors so I put it in nuetral and unlocked the doors. When I put it in drive and took off it locked the doors.

Thanks it has been driving me nuts.

i found this with the search fuction.....

All it is is press and hold the central locking switch for 5 secs. while the key is in the #2 position. I guess I should compile all these programming procedures into 1 list. It's all in the book but scattered in different sections.:o
